outdoor it, a place for all things outdoors

Outdoor Hiking

One of the bets pastimes that you can definitely do is outdoor hiking.  Especially in the summer time being stuffed up in an office, working with computers under a florescent light and answering calls from your customers can get mundane very quick.  However, with outdoor hiking, you will be able to get in communion with the nature and with wilderness.  Getting some fresh forest or mountain air, having some peace and quiet to yourself and the ability to some light physical exertion with some outdoor hiking can be quite enjoyable.  Outdoor Hiking is also something that you can do with your friends, coworkers and family so it can be a favorite pastime for everyone that can enjoy being in the nature.  It is also a sport and an activity that is suitable for all ages.  You can take your 70 year old father or 7 year old son; it simply doesn’t matter. You will soon discover that relaxing in your Camping Shower, or sitting back in your Outdoor Camping Chair is much more fun after a day of hiking outdoors.

However going on outdoor hiking requires some preparation for it to be as enjoyable as possible.  First of all, you will have to decide whether you want to also have an outdoor camp at night during your hiking.  Some people like to just hike so they take their SUV or RV to a place suitable for hiking.  They hike for a day, then they jump in their SUV and they leave for the day.  However if you are looking for a real and enjoyable hiking experience; then you should definitely be prepared to spend at least a night camping in a suitable place.  You should think of outdoor hiking as a way to do outdoor sports and as a way to have some fun being in communion with the nature.

Now that you have decided to go hiking, it’s important to be prepared.  You must take certain equipment with you and you must plan for the optimal hiking pleasure.  Some things that you should definitely take with you are:

  1. Backpacks:  It is the most important part of a hiking trip.  It should be big enough so that you can take all the things that you need.  However, your backpacks must be comfortable enough, so that you do not need to stop often to rest your weary shoulders.  Backpacks with triple straps (two on the shoulders, one on the waist) are usually more comfortable compared to double strap backpacks.   They should also have a place to put your water canteen.
  2. Hiking Shoes:  For all your Camping Adventures you should definitely have special hiking shoes that are suitable for outdoor hiking.  They are somewhat similar to sneakers; but they have durable and extra flexible soles, so that they can grab on to the terrain more easily while absorbing the shock of uneven toads on your feet.  They should fit perfectly and not be a size too big or too small for comfort.
  3. Compass:  Sometimes it can be very difficult to find your way around in nature hiking.  Especially some trails will look like each other and having something such as a compass or a portable GPS to steer you by can be a very positive advantage.
  4. Drinking Water and Canteen:  You should definitely have enough drinking water to take care of your needs during hiking.  It is always possible for you to get lost or to lose your trail, so you should have plenty of water just in case.
  5. Binoculars:  If you are going to an all nature trail hiking, then having binoculars can be very beneficial.  You can watch the flora and the fauna; plus you will be able to see exactly where you are, when you go on top of a hill or a mountain.
  6. Energy Bars:  You can get fatigues during the day so you should definitely have a couple of energy bars with you in case you get hungry.
  7. Swiss Knife:  In case you need to open something or cut something, you should definitely have a Swiss knife in your pocket.  You never know when you might need it for something.
  8. Flashlights:  In case you get lost or you want to continue hiking in the dark; you should definitely have flashlights so that you can steer your direction easily.

So once you get your stuff in order, all you have to do is make the necessary preparations and go hiking.    Taking a whole weekend off for outdoor hiking can be a great idea.  You should have enough time to enjoy the scenery and the view by having enough time.  If you have a SUV, just pack it with everything you need and go to a suitable camping location and park your car there.  Then you can hike with your friends to your hearts content.  Taking at least one night for camping will be a great idea and it will enhance your hiking experience.
